Blue Bird Of Happiness Card

Hello and Welcome!

I am in one of those creative jags. Lots of fun projects getting done, but my craftroom looks like it exploded. Here is my latest card:

I was inspired to use aqua and gold with a black contrast. The "hello" diecut is from Winnie and Walter's The Big, The Bold and The Happy set. The cute birdie is from W&W's So Tweet stamp set. He is colored with Zig Clean Color marker, fussy cut and popped dot. The gold background was created with Ellen Hutson's Wonky Backgrounds and Ranger's Princess Gold embossing powder. The 3 sequins are from Simon Says Stamp's Witches Brew.

So Romantic Page

Hello and Welcome!

My husband is the best. And I think, after you have been married for almost 2 decades, love and romance can be seen in many different ways. Here is one:

This page is based on a sketch and song challenge by the Scrappy Friends. I used pattern papers by Bobunny and Amy Tan. The gears and hearts are diecuts by Sizzix. I chalked all the paper edges with Quick Quotes Powder Puff Chalking Ink "Mocha Mama."

Getting Inky with June

Hello and welcome Quick Quote fans.

I am so excited to share a new passion with you! It's POWDER PUFF CHALKING INKS!!!!

Recently I have been experimenting with Powder Puff Chalking Inks and they are amazing. These inks work so well with all kinds of techniques. Over the next few months, I hope to show you just how great Powder Puff Chalking Inks really are and why they are my new favorite colored ink.

Powder Puff Chalk Inks are a unique, creamy, smooth ink that come in dozens of yummy colors - including 12 new colors for 2017 (you can check them all out here). Today's project highlights some basic uses of these inks.

One great property of Powder Puff Chalk Inks is that they stamp well on many surfaces like canvas, vellum, chipboard and paper. They are mostly opaque (like pigment inks), yet also have a slight translucency (like dye inks), which allows you to stamp colors on top of each other to get a richer blended look.  I did this with the yellow "yum," stamping first with Buttercup Yellow then with Orange Slice. These inks dry fast, so you don't have to worry about smearing.

The green hill was created by blending with Green Leaf and Limeade Powder Puff Chalking Inks together. These inks blended better than any other ink I've ever used. The soft texture allows the colors to glide on smoothly and mix without streaks.

Organization Tip: I add velcro dots to the back of my ink pad to store the blending pad.

Of course, Powder Puff Chalking Inks are best know for chalking the edges of paper, which I did here with Quick Quotes new Winter Bliss papers and Pixie Pink ink. Chalking paper adds depth and ties papers together. I especially love that Quick Quotes perfectly matches its paper and ink colors, so you know they will always go together.

Quick Quotes Products:
Winter Bliss Paper Pack *New!*
Powder Puff Chalking Inks: Pixie Pink, Green Leaf, Buttercup, Fuchsia, Orange Slice, Limeade, Baja Blue & Caribbean Blue

Other Products:
stamps: Gerda Steiner (pig), Stampendous (sentiment), Elle's Studio (yum)
sequins
copic markers (pig)
Versafine black

So get out your Powder Puff Chalking Inks and start experimenting! If you do try some of these ideas with Powder Puff Chalking Inks leave me a comment and a posting link, I'd love to come over and check it out!

I have a silly little bonus project to show you too!

Wanting to jazz up our homemade Valentine's Day cake, I used colored sugar and the "LOVE YOU" banners from February's Club Q kit as stencils.

Ok, ok, I'll stick with paper crafting. But my guys liked it and the cake was gone in minutes.

Celebrate Space Card

Hello and Welcome!

I love making galaxies, they always turn out so pretty and unique. Here is my latest:

I used The Cat's Pajamas "Space Cadet" stamp for the rocket and colored it with metallic markers. The sentiment is a combination of Papertrey Inks' Wet Paint "Celebrate" diecut and their Lighten Up stamp that was heat embossed with copper embossing powder. The background was created with a combination of Quick Quotes Powder Puff Chalk inks and Distress inks.

Boys & Their Toys Layout

Hello and Welcome!

My son is 15 and just learning to drive, so before we turn him loose on the roads, I thought a little practice on a smaller scale was in order. He couldn't have agreed more and had a blast driving Go-carts.

This layout is based on Scrap Our Stash's fabulous sketch.

No automatic alt text available.

The Scrap Our Stash Word Challenge this month is CUPID. I did:
     C - Creative Embellishment's chipboard
     U - Uniball silver pen
     P - pattern paper
     I - ink
     D - diecut

I changed the sketch up a little by using large handmade gears instead of triangles to fit my theme. (I also added journaling in the title spot.)  The "Play Hard" quote is from Simon Says Stamp's All Boy set which is heat embossed with white powder.

I rounded things out with Tim Holtz (Sizzix) gear diecuts. And painted the Creative Embellishment's tire with black ink and a silver pen.

The Money Guy Layout

One of my crafting resolutions this year was to use more stamps on my layouts. Melissa Phillips over at  Papertrey Ink did a great example, which inspired me to create a page using their stamps and clocks.

This page is based on a sketch from Stuck?! Sketches. I used Papertrey Ink sentiments on the long tag (from PI's Lighten Up, Flower Fusion, Heart2heart & Star Scribbles sets).

Using one of my favorite tools, a Tim Holtz's clock stencil, I added texture with molding paste in the background along with watercolor splatters.

Fun With February's Club Q

Hello and welcome, June here today.

I am showcasing a romantic layout you can create with your Quick Quotes' February Club Q kit. (Not a member yet? Click here.)  I am also playing along with Connie's February Challenge: Hearts...any kind of heart or hearts! (You can join in on the fun by clicking here.)

This month's Club Q is fill with the beautiful Winter Bliss papers. I started with Winter Bliss 102 and adhered a 10-1/2" square white cardstock edged with Fuchsia PowderPuff Chalk Ink to the center. Then a doily was added to the upper right. Design Tip #1 - Use the chipboard banners (that come in the kit) as stencils. I made the "LOVE YOU" title with a gold paint pen, coloring right over the doily!

Designer Tip #2 - to add some glitz, I took 3 of the cute heart frames and XO chipboard banners (these are also in the kit), smooshed them into Versamark Ink and heat embossed them with gold embossing powder.  Super easy and a great way to jazz up your Quick Quotes chipboard.

To make the fun embellishment flowers, I punched 3 big flowers and 3 small flowers, edged them with Fuchsia PowderPuff Chalk Ink, and added faux white stitching with a white gel pen. A large pearl brad (from February's kit Add-On #2) was added to the center of each of the flowers. The leaves were punched from Chiffon 101 and edged with Seafoam PowderPuff Chalk Ink. For texture a little cheesecloth was added. The pink hearts in the title are from the frames and were painted with gesso and colored with Fuchsia PowderPuff Chalk Ink.

Next I cut a 4" x 12" (stripes) and a 5" x 12" piece (arrows, reverse side) from Winter Bliss 100. After edging them with Fuchsia PowderPuff Chalk Ink, I layered them and added the framed photos and heart gems. I also added a decorative border cut from  Winter Bliss 102. Lastly, I adhered the embellishments and wrote the journaling across the bottom.

Friends with Chocolate Card

Hello and welcome!

When I saw this cute piggy image at Gerda Steiner's site, I remembered the perfect sentiment by Stampendous to go with it. What do you think?

I can't wait to send this to one my girlfriends, as we enjoy chocolate almost as much as coffee.

The pig is colored with Copic markers. The tags are a Spellbinders diecut and the background was made with a Darcie embossing folder.

Love With All Your Heart Card

Hello and Welcome!

I'm taking a quick break from all the Valentine's Day fun going on here to post this sweet, shaker card made from Verve Stamp's Love From Me Set.

Only Verve's Julee, knee deep in snow with bronchitis & sick kids, would think "hey, now's a good time to create a digi freebie for all my fans." (Hope you are feeling better, Julee.) You can check out Love From Me Digital Freebie here.  I paired this sentiment with Verves' Surely Goodness stamped flower and Sprightly Sprigs dies plus Ellen Hutson's Inside Out bear. The large die cut heart is by Spellbinders and so is the dotted embossing folder used on the background. I colored the bear & hearts with Zig Clean Color markers and Ranger's Princess Gold embossing powder.

Birdie Valentine Card

Hello and Welcome!

I wanted to make a cute and vintage looking Valentine card for may Auntie June. Here it is:

I love the bird from Winnie & Walters's Happiest Of Holidays set and wanted to bring in a little romance by combining it with Verve Stamps floral heart from their Love Everlasting set. Coloring was done with Tombow markers and Zig Clean Color markers. The sentiment is from Winnie & Walter's The Big, The Bold and The Happy stamp and die sets. To add some greenery I used Verve's Sprightly Sprigs diecut. The pattern paper is by Basic Gray. To finish off the card I added ribbon and tiny clear gems. This card is based on a sketch at Mojo Monday.

Just Us Layout for Scrap Our Stash

Hello and Welcome!

Check out the new Scrap Our Stash challenge for February:

No automatic alt text available.

For this challenge I used the middle column: polka dots - hearts - glitter.  (And just for fun, I also did the diagonal: tag - hearts - doily.)

Jeff and I always smile when we look at this photo, vividly remembering our romantic Ferris wheel ride.

Most of the pattern papers are by Shimelle. The embellishments are October Afternoon's Midway. The red glitter hearts were diecut with Simon Says Stamps' Large Holiday Shapes. The title letters are by Thickers.

Wanting to try something new, I created the doily heart around the photo with 2 circle doilies. Then to add a little more color and get the heart to stand out, I backed the doilies with pink cardstock.

Here are a couple more close ups:

Design Note: Creating embellishment clusters can really destash odds & ends plus they help tell the story and add whimsy.

Come check out the fun and inspiration at Scrap Our Stash. Who knows if you join in you might even win a prize!

Thanks for stopping by, and hope you can find a little romantic getaway this month - even if it is just a moment on a Ferris wheel.

State Fair Layout

Hello and welcome!

We love going to our state fair, as do most Minnesotans. It is so fun to be reliving these fun summer moments with all the snow and cold outside right now.

This page is based on a layout sketch on the Elle's Studio blog. I used Elle's Studio's Shine and Sunny Days collections, including the pattern papers, wood veneer, acrylic Popsicle and Lil' Snippet labels. I also added Thickers and machine stitching.

Sweet 16 Layout - Quick Quotes Design Team Debut

Hello and thanks for stopping by. It's June here and I am so excited to be joining you here today. I'm one of the new faces on the Quick Quotes blog. Joining the Quick Quotes Design Team is like a dream come true!!!

Today I am sharing a fun layout, made with Quick Quotes beautiful new Mulberry collection, about my son's 16th birthday.  I started with the Mulberry white MB100 (edged with Midnight Confessions Powder Puff Chalk Ink), added blue splatters (made with Caribbean Blue Powder Puff Chalk Ink & water) and matted it with MB103.

To jazz up the title, diecut stars cut from MB100  (edged with Buttercup Powder Puff Chalk Ink) were glued to the background. The title letters were diecut from MB105 and the "16" is shadowed with Mulberry stripes MB105. The letters were also outlined with a black pen. The quote from Sheer Joy SJ500 is matted with blue gems added.

The "cake" was made with strips of MB101 & MB103 (edged with Caribbean Blue Powder Puff Chalk Ink) and matted with MB105.  The entire cake is popped up with Foam Squares to add dimension and accommodate the straws. I added the "celebrate" strip from Sheer Joy SJ600  and made it into a banner by putting white flags on the sides.

I attached the colorful Quick Quote straws to the back of the photo. The flames are hand cut from MB100 blended with Buttercup Powder Puff Chalk Ink and colored with a red marker & orange Stickles, and glued on top of the straws to make "candles."

To balance out the design, I added the journaling banner on top, matted with MB105 and machined stitched.
