Kitten Card

Hello and Welcome!

Happy Halloween! I was looking for a project to work on in between trick-or-treaters, and was inspired by Kelly Latevola's video on the Simon Says Stamp blog to create this rainbow striped card.

I stamped a rainbow of watercolors (another technique video by Kelly) with Hero Arts' rubber stamp set Texture and Shape LP 283. The kitten and yarn are from Simon Says Stamp's Pawsome stamp set, and were painted with Zig watercolor markers and then fussy cut. The sentiment is from Hero Art's Everyday Sayings set which was heat embossed with white embossing powder.

Summer Time Layout

Hello and Welcome!

It has been snowing and sleeting here in Minnesota, so I decided it was a great day to scrap a page about our summer visit to the lake.

I used mostly Simple Stories Sunshine & Happiness papers and embellishments.

Designer Tip #1: To keep the background from overpowering the photo, I used papers with the same subtle design.

Designer Tip #2: I wanted a large element that matched the papers in the upper corner, to break up the vertical strips and draw attention to the photo. It worked well to fussy the sun & cloud from the pattern papers.

Designer Tip #3: To make the photo POP, I used contrasting colors - orange & teal blue

Designer Tip #4: To add a little pizzazz, I added the horizontal border-punched strips in white. They bring interest and a playfulness to the layout.

This page is based on a layout sketch by Susan Stringfellow found on Rochelle Spears' blog.

Scrapping On The Go

Hello and Welcome!

This weekend my husband and I went on a fun adventure to Red Wing, MN (famous for shoes, pottery and gorgeous river views from the bluffs).  Here is a layout from our trip:

I wanted to scrap the trip in our hotel room, but didn't want to bring a ton of stuff. This is where having Quick Quotes' October Club Q layout kit and my portable Canon Selphy printer came in handy.  Everything I needed to create a great page was right at my fingertips.

I love the new beautiful Sonata pattern papers that come in the Quick Quotes' October Club Q kit, along with the amazing embellishments. Almost everything you see on this page comes with the kit, even the title and chipboard leaf embellishments (which I heat embossed in gold).  I only added Nuvo Drops and a little vellum to background to help the photos stand out.  The papers were edged with PowderPuff Chalking Inks in Seafoam, Slate, and Peach Tree.

The Canon Selphy printer was great to have along, as I was able to print the photos from my camera right there in my hotel room.  The Selphy was also great because these photos needed some heavy cropping/zooming, which the Selphy did so easily.  Here's how:
  • Turn on the Selphy printer and load your photos.
  • Use the arrows to scroll to the photo you want to print.
  • Press Edit to enter cropping mode.
    • Use the Back button to rotate the photo, if desired.
    • Use the + and - buttons to zoom the print area, and the arrow keys to position it over the portion of the photo you want to print.
    • Press OK.
  • Select any additional photos you want to print, then press the "print" button. Viola!

A New Look

Hello and welcome!

My 16 year old son got a new, trendy haircut for school this year and has started to use styling gel.  (I think it has something to do with a new interest in girls.)  Here are the before and after photos.

I used Simple Stories RAD collection. My son said he liked these papers. Here are a few detailed shots:

I am also up on the Scrap Our Stash blog today and this page is based on their sketch and word challenge. Check it out and come join in on the fun!

For the word challenge I used: L-letter sticker, E-enamel dots, A-arrow, F-flair buttons

Quick Quotes' Club Q Ideas

Hello and Welcome!

I love all the beautiful fall colors and beautiful swirling designs of Quick Quotes' newest collection, Sonata!  Currently this collection is only available through the October Club Q kits. You can check them out here.

Here is a fun page using the new collection of my son's first day back to school as a Junior:

One of my favorite things about this kit is the white leaf chipboard accents and green burlap. They are simply gorgeous and go with almost everything. Here I colored them with Zig Clean Color markers then added Terra Cotta PowderPuff Chalking ink to blend and tone down the colors.

As this page is about my teenage son, I wanted to bring in a more masculine feel to the florals. I did this by matting the pattern papers and photos with black cardstock. I also edged the papers with Seafoam and Terra Cotta PowderPuff Chalking inks.

All of the pattern papers, leaf embellishments and green burlap come in the Club Q kit.  The school-themed embellishments and black cardstock were added from my stash.

Happiest Of Holidays Card

Hello and Welcome!

I need to make a bunch of Christmas cards each year. So I want a design that is easy to mass produce, but still has that Wow! factor. That, my friends, is this card:

For the background I used the smooching technique with red, orange & yellow Distress inks. After it dried I stamped Winnie & Walter's Bed Of Roses with Versamark and heat embossed with gold embossing powder. The photo does not show all the beautiful shimmer and shine. Next I stamped the sentiment from W&W's Happiest Of Holidays set and heat embossed it with black embossing powder.

This card was not only easy and fast to make, but a lot of fun!

    Hello Fall Birdie Card

    Hello and Welcome!

I saw a great stenciling technique by Laura Bassen on the her blog for WCMD. As W&W is also doing challenges for World Card Making Day, I thought I'd join in. Here is my card:

I used W&W Leaf Effects stencil and moved it around using different colors of Quick Quotes' PowderPuff Chalking inks. I also used W&W's "hello" die cut from their Big, Bold and Happy set. It was cut 3 time with white, green & brown papers and layered on top of each other. The bird is from W&W's The Happiest Of Holidays stamps set.

Celebrate Summer with Scrap Our Stash

    Hello and Welcome!

With summer winding down and the nights getting cooler, it is the perfect time to enjoy making s'mores in our fire pit.

I had fun layering Jen Hadfield's embellishments on BoBunny's Take A Hike papers. The "celebrate" die cut is by Winnie & Walter and the mini alphas are by Elle's Studio. I also added ink splatters with Heidi Swapp's Bronze Color Shine.

Today I am up on the Scrap Our Stash blog showcasing this month's Tic-Tac-Toe Challenge.

I went with the first column:
    Orange
    Doily
    Mini Alphas

Hope you are inspired to join in on the fun, which you can do here.

The card base was cut from Sonata 105 edged with Mocha Mama PowderPuff Chalking ink and mounted on dark brown cardstock.

The log was stamped with Mocha Mama PowderPuff Chalking ink on kraft cardstock and fussy cut.

The cute pup was stamped, fussy cut and colored with Zig Clean Color markers.

It's Starting To Look Like Christmas

    Hello and Welcome!

Yikes! I'm still in summer mode. But, I am always glad that I had started making Christmas cards in October when hectic December comes around. So here is my holiday card of the season:

I used a "vintage" Hero Art's Christmas tree stamp (from 2006!) which was colored with Tombow markers, sprayed with water and stamped. I then added watercolor and colorful Liquid Enamels on the tree. This card was also inspired by Kelly Latevola's video (on Simon Says Stamp blog) on watercolor stamping.  The sentiment is also a Hero Arts stamp.

For fun, this card uses a gate fold.

    This card is entered in:

    • The "Christmas" Wednesday challenge at Simon Says Stamp
    • The World Cardmaking Day "Make & Mail" Challenge at My Favorite Things

Believe In Yourself - Lasting Memories Guest Designer Layout

    Hello and Welcome!

I am up as a Guest Designer at Lasting Memories today. The challenge is to include children's artwork. So my son and I worked on this page together plus he did all of the journaling. It was really fun!

I chose this Belle Blvd. paper as the title was already done and gave a good journaling prompt plus my son liked the background and gold foil. Aaron also loved going through my Creative Embellishment stash and picking out these fun chippies.

Check out the fun at and great challenges at Lasting Memories. And if you have kids, try making a page with them.
