Family BBQ

Hello and Welcome!

Today's page is about a right of passage. Yes, Aaron has taken over the grill and is learning to BBQ!

This page was a lot of fun to make. One of my goals, being a scrapbooker and card maker, is to use stamps on my layouts. Here, I used Latina Crafters' cute chef's hat from their "Noche, de sushi?" stamp set (this set also includes one of the most adorable dog stamps ever!). Check out how perfect that hat fits on my son's head. The layout is based on a sketch from their blog and our favorite outside place is our backyard!

I also used Poppy Stamp's Hip Halloween Circle Frame die for the journaling and title. I think the circles look like flames - perfect for this page! Black splatters for Heidi Swapp's Color Shine were also applied. The decorative borders were created from a Martha Stewart punch.

Smile with Papertrey

Hello and Welcome!

It's Stamp-A-Faire time at Papertrey Ink with great ideas, lessons and challenges! Hooray!!!

For this card I tried Dawn McVey's challenge which included using 8 colors, stenciling, stamping and die cutting. I used Papertrey's Flower Fusion for stamping and their Wet Paint die cut for the sentiment. The stenciling was added along the edges in green with a Heidi Swapp stencil.

The color scheme was inspired by Cupcake Inspirations. And for an added twist I layered a scripted word pattern stamp with Hero Arts white ink over the flower images. There is a great video by Dawn McVey on the Papertrey blog called Make It Monday. Plus Lemon Liquid Pearls dimensional paint was applied to the centers of the tiny blooms.

YAY, It's Your First Day!

Hello and Welcome!

My son's first day as a Senior is next week! So I made him this card to celebrate!

My Favorite Things is doing an awesome summer school with "inspiring bright ideas." They have get design tips, helpful videos and great challenges. I started this card by blending 2 ombre panels, one with yellows and the other with oranges. Then die cut them with MFT's Die-namics Sun Cover Up and pieced them together. A double Ombre effect!. I also used MFT's Die-namics Cloud STAX for the sentiment which is from MFT's "YAY For You" stamps set. The focal point is MFT's Die-namics "So Many Yays." A Visual Triangle was created with the sequins from Simon Says Stamp. This card is based on a sketch from Sketch N Scrap.

Samurai Sword Master

Hello and Welcome!

My husband, Jeff, has been studying at the National Karate School for over 9 years and is a second degree black belt. He has been perfecting a sword form and this year performed it at the NK Intramural Tournament. Jeff took 2nd place beating out 3rd and 4th degrees! Way to go!!!!

Texture was added to this page with silver embossing paste and a stencil by Creative Embellishments. The Creative Embellishment's chipboard dragon is perched on a handmade sword cut from mirrored paper. I was inspired by the bold black lines that add contrast in Creative Embellishment's mood photo.

The brick chipboard and the star flair button are also by Creative Embellishments. This page is based on a sketch from Sketch N Scrap.

1 Layout 3 Ways with Quick Quotes

Hello and Welcome!

When I scrapbook, sometimes I need a lot of pages done fast (but still beautiful) and other times I like to take my time playing with lots of materials. Today's post shows 1 layout 3 different ways using Quick Quotes' Far and Away collection.

Design 1: I love how Quick Quotes' papers have done all the background work for us. The Far and Away 101 paper provides beautiful layered designs on the edges, open space in the middle for photos and even a title! Just add photos and journaling! Fast and beautiful.

Design 2: Kicking the design up a notch, the photos were clustered, matted with white cardstock and edged with Deep Sea PowderPuff Chalking Ink. Far and Away 104, edged with Deep Sea PowderPuff Chalking Ink, was added to the background to anchor the photos and provide color. An embellishment cut from Far and Away Quotes and Phrases and a title were also added.

Design 3: It can be fun bringing in many more embellishments and textures. Here, embellishments cut from Far and Away Quotes and Phraes and edged with Deep Sea or Terra Cotta PowderPuff Chalking Ink were added in three places around the page forming a visual triangle. Decorative borders punched from Far and Away 101 and edged with Terra Cotta PowderPuff Chalking Ink were layered in for texture. Circular embellishments were adhered behind the title for interest. The journaling was moved to a tag and tucked behind a photo. Ribbon, foam squares and machine stitching the banners provided more texture and depth.

Quick Quotes Products:
Far and Away Paper Pack
Far and Away Quotes and Phrases
PowderPuff Chalk Inks: Terra Cotta and Deep Sea

All three of these designs are wonderful, it just comes down to which style you like and how much time you have to create. The important thing is that you are documenting your lovely memories and enjoying the process!

Happy crafting!

On the Hunt

Hello and Welcome!

Each Easter Jeff and Tyler try to out do each other in finding the most creative hiding spot for their baskets. This year, Jeff hid Tyler's basket in a suitcase - which meant Ty had to unzip and dig through 20 bags to find it. But Tyler won the challenge this year by hiding Jeff's basket in the ductwork!

This page is based on the Jump Start sketch from The Scraproom blog. The egg and bunny stickers are by Doodlebug. The cute chicks were fussy cut from pattern paper. The colorful splatters were added to the orange tag.

Pokemon Fun

Hello and Welcome!

Our family loves playing the ultimate outdoor scavenger hung game - Pokemon Go. We have walked miles and discovered so many amazing places playing this game. A recent challenge was to complete a dozen difficult quests to find a mystical creature. It took us several weeks, but we all discovered Mew!

The playful Shades Of Color pattern papers by Jillibean Soup were perfect for these photos. Love the colorful splatters.

Celebrate Beautiful Days

Hello and Welcome!

Jeff and I recently celebrated our 19th Wedding Anniversary and it still feels like we are on our honeymoon! This photo was taken as we were walking around Lake Susan at sunset.

I love Kaiser Craft's Fleur Collection. It has such a romantic feel and was perfect for this photo. The photo was matted with several papers from 6x6 Fleur paper pad (the precut scalloped border came in the pad too!)

Texture was added with clear bead texture paste and a stencil. I think this adds to the romantic feel of the page. Gold Color Shine was also splattered on the background.

The coordinating Fleur Collectables, which include journaling cards, tags and flowers, made embellishing this layout so easy and beautiful.

Fun and Games?

Hello and Welcome!

One of our favorite stores, Games By James, has fun, monthly events to try for store credits. This month, people were given 5 sets of 2 identical jelly belly beans - one was a "good" favor like lime, the other "yucky" like grass. You had to pick one from each set and eat it. We "volunteered" Aaron for this challenge and he did well until he encountered "crow" flavor. And, well, his face says it all!

This page is based on sketches from Scrap Our Stash. Splatters were created with Heidi Swapp's Tinsel Color Shine. The silver embossed arrows are stamps from CAS-ual Fridays" RAD set.

The jelly bean pattern paper is by Doodlebug. The silver stars are CAS-ual Fri-dies.

Hello Summer Card with Quick Quotes

Hello and welcome!

I have a yummy, fun card project for you featuring Quick Quotes' Secret Garden collection.

Nothing screams summer more at our house than ice cream. Even the neighborhood ice cream truck makes a special trip to stop right in front our driveway each Tuesday evening! That was the inspiration for this card:

Here is the step-by-step:
  • Adhere a 5.5 x 4.25 inch Secret Garden 101 to a card base.
  • Mat 4 x 5 inch white cardstock with the red side of Secret Garden 103. Edge with Tropical Punch PowderPuff Chalking Ink and add silver thread.
  • To get the waffle cone texture, brown cardstock was stamped with Kokomo PowderPuff Chalking Ink.
  • The ice cream was die cut from the stripes of Secret Garden 103, edged with Tropical Punch or Aqua PowderPuff Chalking Inks and coated with Glossy Accents.
  • The sentiment was die cut from black cardstock, layered three times and coated with Glossy Accents.
  • The cute scalloped border was cut from the green side of Secret Garden 101 and edged with Aqua PowderPuff Chalking Ink.

Hope you are inspired to create something bright and beautiful with the Secret Garden collection.

Reasons To Smile Layout

Hello and Welcome!

As a family we are a bunch of homebodies and really enjoy just hanging out together. Here we are celebrating Valentine's Day.

The background of this layout started with black cardstock and rows of hearts were die cut from it. As I was inspired by the colorfulness of the inspirational photo on the Creative Embellishments blog, I backed the hearts with Jillibean Soup's Bold Brilliance pattern paper.

The elegant title is chipboard from Creative Embellishments. I applied Hero Arts white ink to it for a softer look.

The fun chipboard frame and hearts are also by Creative Embellishments. I used several coats of Ranger's Silver Embossing powder on the hearts to create a reflective shine.

The hidden journaling is on the tag behind the photo and is decorated with washi tape. The decorative borders were made with a punch by Martha Stewart. To finish off the page, reflective gold gems were added.

College Bound Mini Album with Quick Quotes

Hello and Welcome!

My son will be a High School Senior this fall, so this summer we have been traveling all over the Midwest doing college tours. There were so many schools and so much to remember, I thought it would be great to do a mini album to keep track of things. I used April's Club Q Premier Altered Kit, but changed the papers to better fit my son's adventures.

Being on the road, it worked well to have the Club Q Kit with everything together. I just added adhesive, stickers, PowderPuff Chalking Inks and photos!

I love the fun interactive tag elements, and they allow for a lot of extra journaling space. Complete and easy to follow directions for creating this album come with the kit.

The album was super easy to assemble and only took 30 mins, as everything is pre-cut and pre-scored! I was stopped multiple times by women wondering how they could get this kit. (You can order yours here!)

I used papers from the Spring Showers (102, 103) and Navigator (101, 104) collections (which are different than the ones in the kit) and edged them with Terra Cotta and Bermuda PowderPuff Chalking Inks.

Black cardstock photo mats and decorative borders punched from Spring Showers 101 (edged with Bermuda PowderPuff Chalking Ink) were added to each page to tie the project together.

I hope you've enjoyed getting a glimpse into our fun adventures and got a few ideas to create your own Club Q mini album.
